Egg donation VS Surrogacy

Research shows that the reason for failed implantation is much more likely to be genetically abnormal embryos ( because of poor quality eggs), rather than a uterine problem. In these cases a egg donor transfer would be the better treatment option. It is much less expensive; and has a higher success rate, since it's allowing us to bypass the basic problem. It's also much more socially acceptable, since it's the parent's name on the birth certificate, so that no one else needs to know that the child was born as a result of egg donation. Even better, it allows for much better bonding, as the mother can experience the pregnancy herself !

Unfortunately, most IVF doctors do not bother to explain alternative options to their patients , because they can charge much for surrogacy. This is actually a misuse of surrogacy treatment which preys on the infertile couple's ignorance and desperation !

What happens if the embryos do not implant in the first treatment cycle ?

You need to have realistic expectations of IVF treatment. While our IVF surrogacy success rates are very high, they are not 100% !

If the first cycle fails, and you need to repeat another fresh IVF cycle with your own eggs , then the cost is an additional  US $ 3000

If the first cycle fails, and you need to repeat another fresh IVF cycle with donor eggs , then the cost is an additional US $ 4000

If we have frozen embryos from the first IVF cycle, then the cost for transferring these into the surrogate is  US $ 2000

Deciding to go in for surrogacy is a very hard decision for most infertile couples, because of the many variables involved, and they have many concerns - social, legal, financial , emotional and medical.

Women who agree to become surrogates may do so for compassionate reasons. This is called altruistic surrogacy and the surrogate could be a sister, mother or close friend of the couple. In commercial surrogacy, by contrast , the surrogate agrees to become a surrogate for financial remuneration.

1. Medical - is it really the right medical choice for you ? For many women, donor egg or embryo adoption has a much better success rate !
2. Emotional - are you comfortable with this option ?
3. Financial - surrogacy can be expensive - and the success rate is not 100%, so you need to be prepared !
4. Legal - While India does allow commercial surrogacy, will your country give your baby citizenship ? If not, then we will not be able to help you, as you need to take your baby back with you to your own country after birth, for which your embassy will need to issue your baby with a passport !
